Distribution and Habitat

  • Originally described from Norway (Trondheim area) and Sweden (Torne lappmark).
  • Found in subalpine and low alpine zones.
  • Grows in moist willow thickets (vierkratt).
  • Present in Canada (Labrador, Newfoundland).

Morphological Characteristics

  • Plants are cespitose (growing in tufts) and short-rhizomatous.
  • Culms (stems) are 18–80 cm tall.
  • Leaves are 2.5–11.5 mm wide and sparingly scabrous (rough to the touch).

Hybridization
