Distribution and Habitat
Caloplaca ludificans is considered endemic to western North America. It is commonly found on Monterey shale and is frequently observed on supralittoral rocks in the San Francisco Bay area and southward. One collection location is documented at Camp Kearney Mesa in San Diego, California, where it was found growing on soil.
