Distribution and Habitat

  • Native to Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas, as well as parts of Northern Mexico.
  • Thrives in hot and dry areas.
  • Tolerant of clay, sandy, and caliche soils.

Morphological Characteristics

  • Upright, bushy plant with narrow green to gray-green foliage.
  • Cup-shaped flowers, typically bright to lemon yellow, approximately 1 inch in diameter. The color fades to orange as the flower matures.
