Catalpa bungei is native to northern China, including the provinces of Gansu, Hebei, Henan, Hunan, Jiangsu, Shaanxi, Shandong, Shanxi, and Zhejiang. It has also been introduced to Guangxi and Guizhou.
A collection has been documented in China’s Shaanxi Province at Nan Gong Shan at 1250 meters altitude by the Goteborg Botancal Garden.
