Distribution and Habitat
- Arnica mollis is native to western North America, from Alaska to California and Colorado.
Morphological Characteristics
- The plant is erect, covered with short to long hairs and glands.
- Stems are numerous and seldom branched.
- Leaves on the stem are arranged in 2-4 pairs.
- Leaves are usually sessile and narrower than those of Arnica cordifolia.
- Stems, leaves, and phyllaries (bracts) are hairy.
- Flower heads are yellow.
- Each flower measures 2-5 cm across, with 12-18 ray-petals surrounding a disk that is up to 1.5 cm across.
- Bracts on the involucre are especially hairy at the base.
