Pellia neesiana, commonly known as ring pellia, also referred to as Nees' Pellia, is a liverwort belonging to the genus Pellia.

Distribution and Habitat
Pellia neesiana is widespread in cool and temperate regions. It can be found growing on damp mineral (inorganic) soil in shaded and wet sites, along stream banks, lake shores, and in swampy areas.
- Locations include: Outer Hebrides in Scotland, Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, Tversted s udlb (Jylland, Danmark), Austria (Salzburg - Httschlag - Schwarzwand), Germany (Schwbisch-Fränkischer Wald), and Epping Forest (July 1885).
Morphology
Pellia neesiana is usually a dark to rich green and somewhat translucent, with wavy borders on its thallus.
Genetic Information
The male plant of P. neesiana has nine chromosomes (n=9). DNA synthesis of the X-chromosome has been studied using H3-thymidine autoradiography.
Quirky Facts
- One observer noted a reddish tint in P. neesiana and detected a smell, though it wasn't strong.
- A spiral structure has been observed in the spermatozoid of Pellia neesiana.
