Distribution and Habitat

Ophioparma rubricosa is found in North America, Europe, and specifically Sardinia, Italy. It has been observed on rocks, in quarry areas, and on decorticated manzanita and the branches of Oregon Oak. It is also found in Siskiyou National Forest, Oregon, U.S.A., as well as in Great Britain, Wales, and Snowdonia.

Morphological Characteristics

Ophioparma rubricosa is closely related to Ophioparma juniperiicola by the appearance of its thallus.

Ecology

  • Observed to grow on wood.
  • Associated with other lichens such as Letharia vulpina, Placynthiella spp., Ptychographa xylographoides, Trapeliopsis flexuosa, and Xylographa parallela.
