Argyrolobium is a genus of flowering plants belonging to the legume family, Fabaceae, and the subfamily Faboideae.

Distribution and Habitat

  • Principally found in southern Africa (approximately 50 species).
  • Approximately 10 species are located in the highlands of tropical Africa, extending to Ethiopia.
  • Three species are native to Madagascar.
  • Approximately 15 species are found in the Mediterranean region.
  • Ecology: Brachystegia woodland on rocky slopes, gully forest, and, rarely, water margins of rain-forest and riverine forest and swamps.
