Ochrolechia bryophaga can be found in the American Arctic, including locations such as the Kanin-Pechora area, Polar Ural, Yamal-Gydan area, Anabara-Olenyok area, Yana-Kolyma area, Continental Chukotka, and Wrangel Island. It has also been observed in the Northwest Territories of Canada, specifically in the southern continental arctic northeast of Yellowknife.

Ochrolechia bryophaga exhibits a lichenous growth habit. It can resemble immature Ochrolechia subplicans.
