Distribution and Habitat

This lichen has been found in North America, including the North Shore of Lake Superior, Ontario, as well as in Estonia, Switzerland and Belarus. It frequently grows on Betula papyrifera (paper birch) and other broad-leaved trees like Alnus incana in open habitats. There is also documentation of it growing on Abies nordmanniana.

Morphological Characteristics

Fuscidea arboricola is a crustose lichen (skorplavar in Swedish).

Ecology and Interactions

In Acadia National Park, it has been identified as a new species report. It can occur on both pine and broad-leaved trees. This species has also been found with other lichen species, such as Hypogymnia incurvoides and Lepraria finkii.
