Distribution and Habitat
- Alyssum borzaeanum is endemic to the sand dunes along the western and north-western shores of the Black Sea, extending up to Krym.
- Specific locations include the Romanian Black Sea shore and the Agigea sand dunes.
- It can also be found in Bulgaria.
- Observed in cultivation in the Montreal Botanical Garden rock garden (Quebec, Canada).
Conservation Status
- Alyssum borzaeanum is a protected species, enlisted in Annexes of the Berne Convention (Appendix I).
Morphological Characteristics
- Erect or ascending growth habit.
- Reaches a height of approximately six to fifteen inches.
- Woody at the base.
Ecological Role
- Characteristically forms plant communities with Ephedra distachya in certain areas.
- Found in rare plant communities with ephedra in Ukraine, specifically Kherson Oblast near Bili Kuchugury cape.
