Distribution and Habitat
- Native to the Russian Far East (Sakhalin, Kamchatka, Primotie) and Japan.
- Also found in Siberia and Hokkaido.
Morphological Characteristics
- Deciduous tree growing to 6 meters (approximately 19 feet) tall and 4.5 meters (approximately 14 feet) wide.
- Has a columnar to narrow pyramidal crown.
- Young shoots are stout, warted, and slightly hairy at first, becoming deep brown-purple by autumn.
