Taxonomy and Nomenclature
- Scientific Name: Coscinodon cribrosus (Hedw.) Spruce
- Family: Grimmiaceae
- Synonyms: Grimmia cribrosa Hedw., Grimmia lawiana J.H. Willis (transferred to Coscinodon lawianus)
- The species was initially placed in the genera Grimmia and Weissia before being assigned to Coscinodon by Richard Spruce in 1849.
Distribution and Habitat
- Coscinodon cribrosus is known from widely disjunct sites across North America.
- It's also found in other locations, including old quarry faces with slate cliffs.
